Chevrolet Park

Chevrolet Park is the home ground of the Chevrolet Knights and is situated in the heart of the Free State.  The spacious grass embankments makes it a great location to bring the family to enjoy a day out while watching a good game of cricket.  Kiosks and bars are located on all sides of the stadium, assuring that refreshments are available to all spectators.

The stadium is spacious, well situated and has a spectator capacity of 16000, which consists of the following seating options: Grass Embankments on the eastern and western side, Main stand, 11 Main Stand Suites, Roof Garden and a Presidential Suite on the southern side, Centenary Stand and 21 Centenary Stand Suites, and 6 Chalets. A kids play area filled with loads of fun during each match, on the northern side of the stadium, offers parents the comfort that kids will not be bored and in a safe haven.

Chevrolet Park hosted it’s first ODI against India in 1993 and it’s first test match in 1999.  South Africa took on Zimbabwe and won the match by and innings and 13 runs.  The grounds is used for international as well as domestic limited overs matches and 4-day matches. The pitch is recognised as a good one day wicket and is conducive to high scoring. Excellent floodlights makes sure that Chevrolet Park remains on of the six test venues.

Hansie Cronje had one of the greatest innings played in 1994 when he smashed 251 against Australia, hitting 28 fours and 6 sixes, whilst Allan Donald became the first South African to take 300 test wickets at the ground playing against New Zealand in November 2000.  In both these circumstances, Chevrolet Park was their home ground.

A new indoor centre was opened in 2009, assisting the Chevrolet Knights in fine tuning their skills. It consists of state of the art flooring,  4 bowling lanes, a media centre where team meetings take place and offices for the coaching staff.  Net practices take place at the net area behind the Centenary Stand. Chevrolet Park is the first stadium in South Africa to have artificial run-ups for the nets.  Player change rooms are well equipped with a dining area for players, physio rooms and general changing areas for players.

Chevrolet Park promises for loads of excitement, entertainment and great cricket.

Hope to see you soon!
